Timeless Traditions, Modern Perspectives

Cultural Innovation
OTHERS
This project reconnects young Chinese women (18-24) to their heritage through fashion innovation. By upcycling vintage Cheongsams into modern (He)stle bags inspired by the traditional He Bao pouch, it bridges cultural preservation with contemporary design. Each piece retains original embroidery and fabrics, transforming traditional garments into meaningful accessories that spark dialogue about identity.

The design process honours sustainability while addressing fast fashion waste. Accompanying workshops explore garment histories, encouraging participants to share personal connections to their heritage.

More than just accessories, these bags become wearable heirlooms—tangible links to tradition reimagined for modern life. The project empowers wearers to carry their history with pride while engaging in important discussions about cultural continuity in our globalised world. By making heritage both visible and relevant, we help young women reclaim their cultural narratives through design that speaks to their generation.
I’m a multidisciplinary designer and critical thinker, passionate about emotional storytelling through tactile, thought-provoking work. My practice explores identity, memory, and social connections.

I begin by carefully examining my perspective—this self-awareness helps me develop more inclusive narratives that challenge assumptions and spark important conversations. My ability to transform individual reflection into community engagement through material experimentation and involvement is one of my greatest strengths.

My goal is always to craft work that's not just visually compelling, but also genuinely connects with the audience. I adapt to various situations I encounter, and I’m always willing to upgrade myself.
